Jon Funk


Jon founded Ocean Road Partners in 2009 and has been directing startup investments in technology companies in southern California since 1986.


His past investments include Sandpiper Networks (acquired in 2000 for $630 million), Rent.com (acquired in 2004 for $430 million) and Shopzilla (acquired in 2005 for $570 million), all southern California companies. In all cases, Jon sourced, directed the first vc (usually Series A) investment, sat on the Board and participated in the exit. He also currently represents Allegis Capital on the Board of Directors of ClariPhy Communications.


Jon serves in advisory roles to the Berkeley College of Engineering Annual Fund, the Berkeley Incentive Awards Program, is on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Los Angeles Venture Association. He was inducted into the LAVA Hall of Fame in 2012.


He received an MBA from the University of Southern California as a Dean's List Scholar, and a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.


He is a devoted Cal alum, as well as Michigan and Georgetown fan and proud parent. He is also a student of mathematics, guitar, surfing and history, with continual need for improvement in each.
